Naming your pet

When naming your pet remember that the name you choose will be used dozens of times in one day to call, praise or even perhaps scold.
You should pick a name that's easy to call out, but you should avoid names that sound like commands, for instance, naming your dog Joe is very close to the word NO and could be confusing for your pet.
When choosing a long name, just like children, think of what the shortened version will be, as over time it is sure to be shortened.
Using your dog's breed could help choosing a name, such as german for shepherds or scottish for terriors.
Waiting a few days to study your pets behavior could help pick the right name, use his or her's personality, affection or appearance.
Pick a name that will grow with your pet, "baby" is cute as a puppy, but doesn't quite fit an older dog.
Have fun naming your pet. There are also numerous websites with ideas to help.
